Polymer waste streams in the recycling industry consist, to a large extent, of polyolefins like polyethylene and polypropylene. Separation of these materials can create significant technical and economic challenges. A mixed solution of recycled PE-PP blends can lead to poor visual appearance and limited mechanical properties in the finished product due to the incompatibility of the two materials. Selected Catalloy grades, when compounded/blended with PE-PP recycled feeds, help to improve the compatibility, mechanical properties and surface aesthetics of the final product while also expanding the application options of recycled materials. This supports closed loop recycling instead of cascaded recycling.
Maximizing the value potential of PE-PP post-consumer recycling through the use of Catalloy
