Zotefoams, a UK-based producer of cellular materials, has joined Recoup, the country’s plastics resource efficiency and recycling charity.
Zotefoams has developed a fully recyclable HDPE mono-material barrier packaging range called ReZorce Circular Packaging which it says is the first viable alternative to composite barrier packaging.
Zotefoams has partnered with an unnamed ‘major global player in the beverage packaging’ to use the material to replace Liquid Packaging Board (LPB) for juice cartons. Trials with another ‘major’ European retailer are also planned for early this year.
ReZorce provides a solution which is reportedly easy to recycle via standard household collection and has a significantly lower environmental impact, according to Zotefoams, without compromising on performance. The material’s patented multi-layer structure enables recycled plastic to be incorporated within its core, in line with targets set out in the EU Packaging and Packaging Waste Directive (PPWR).
Recoup has over 180 members who share its commitments to a more sustainable use of plastics, increased plastics recycling, improved environmental performance, and meeting legislative requirements.
“It is fantastic to have joined the Recoup membership base,” said Neil Court-Johnston, President, MuCell Extrusion LLC at Zotefoams. “We know we are in good company and are looking forward to collaborating with our new colleagues as we work together on our mission to support the sustainable use of plastics. Our 2024 commercial launch of ReZorce is just one example of the work we are doing across our global business as part of that mission, and we are confident that it will make a significant contribution to securing a circular future for plastic packaging,” he concluded.
