The third edition of the World Plastic Connection Summit, Brazil’s top event for the plastics industry, already promises to be a success. Organised annually by Think Plastic Brazil in collaboration with ApexBrasil, the Brazilian Trade and Investment Promotion Agency, and as always featuring a dynamic and well-filled programme, this year’s Summit has a special treat in store for its attendees: a closing keynote speech by internationally renowned industrial designer Karim Rashid. Born in Cairo, Rashid is half Egyptian and half English, but he was raised in Canada and is now based in New York. In his speech, he will reflect on the impact of innovation and design on the future of companies and their willingness to address deep and fundamental questions of human life in their products.
Karim Rashid is known for his vibrant creations, his use of colour and his organic shapes. His projects are characterised by ‘smooth lines and elegant curves, combined with the use of innovative and technological materials. His portfolio includes a wide range of products, from furniture and lighting to household items and fashion accessories', according to the press release announcing his participation in the Summit.
The recipient of - to date - over 300 awards, his work can be viewed in various museums, but he has also collaborated with major brands, varying from Veuve Clicquot to Method, as well as with architects on major projects around the world.
He is looking forward to being back in São Paulo, in ‘this amazing city’, he said. “With this event, Brazil shows that it is an important player in the transformed plastics sector. I love this country and watching how much they invest in technologies for converted plastics,” he declared.
“The presence of Karim Rashid will be a great moment of inspiration and exchange of knowledge for everyone attending the World Plastic Connection Summit and reaffirms the intention, not only of this event but also of our project, to position Brazil as a world leader in innovation and design in converted plastics,” said Carlos Moreira, strategy and project planning manager of Think Plastic Brazil.
Karim Rashid's participation is supported by Colorfix and Vasart.
The 3rd World Plastic Connection Summit will be held in a hybrid format at Blue Tree Premium Alphaville on August 21-24, 2023, with simultaneous broadcasting in Portuguese, Spanish, and English.
