Velcro Companies has become the newest member of Cyclyx International, a post-use plastic feedstock supply chain initiative founded by chemical recycler Agilyx Corporation and ExxonMobil Chemical Company as a means to promote and increase the rate of plastics recycling.
A manufacturer of innovative fastening solutions, Velcro is also seeking to optimise its sustainable manufacturing processes. One aim is to reduce the use of natural resources; another is to use more recycled content and create more sustainable products for its customers.
“As we focus on meeting the current needs of our customers while preserving the planet for future generations, we pledge to incorporate sustainability into everything we do,” said Chitra Ebenezer, Chief Marketing Officer, Velcro Companies. “Joining the Cyclyx consortium strengthens our ability to determine our baseline global plastic material profile and enables more opportunities to participate in customised post-use plastic take-back programs that help supplement our in-house sustainability efforts.”
Cyclyx’ stated mission is to increase the recycling rate of plastics from the current 10 up to 90%, among others, by creating a new, flexible supply chain. Cyclyx is a consortium-based entity and since its founding there have been a growing number of companies joining its membership.
