The German Chemical Industry Association (VCI) announced it its nominating Covestro’s CEO for a second term as president.
Steilemann took over the association’s presidency on Sept. 30, 2022, and will be up for re-election during the Chemistry & Pharma Summit, taking place this Sept. 12 in Berlin.
"I am delighted that Markus Steilemann wants to continue his voluntary work as the highest representative of our industry and is standing for election again," said VCI General Manager Wolfgang Große Entrup. "His voice as VCI President has been clearly heard in politics and business over the past two years. This was extremely important, especially in these challenging times for Germany as a business location,’ he added.
Germany has been particularly affected by the energy crisis that followed Russia’s invasion of Ukraine in February 2022 and has since been struggling with high inflation, interest rates, and prices, alongside most of the globe. Last year, the VCI member survey revealed that the German chemical industry is undergoing a ‘reorganisation’ as geopolitical developments in the region impact corporate strategies.
Convestro’s CEO first joined the VCI board of directors in March 2020 as vice-president. At the time, he said he was ‘particularly committed to further expanding the dialogue within the chemical and plastics industry and to networking it even more closely with society’.
