Brazil-based plastic manufacturer and recycler Valgroup announced it acquired Mirvi Brasil, a manufacturer of caps and plastic handles for liquid food products, for an undisclosed amount.
The acquisition expands Valgroup’s offer in the caps segment and reinforces its commitment to continuous innovation and sustainable leadership, the company said in a statement.
Valgroup acquired the Brazilian operations of Mirvi Brasil in Cabreúva, São Paulo. It did not buy the production centre in Irun, Spain, Eduardo Berkovitz, Valgroup’s director of institutional relations and compliance, told Sustainable Plastics.
“The main goal of this acquisition is to expand our portfolio,” said Berkovitz. Sport caps will be amongst the new additions to Valgroup’s portfolio, alongside a variety of oil caps and handles for PET bottles. Up until now, Valgroup’s cap portfolio mostly consisted of standard caps for PET bottles.
With the acquisition, Valgroup hopes to strengthen its leadership in the beverage market. It already operates a unit specialised in caps in Itamonte, Minas Gerais.
Last October, Valgroup announced the acquisition of an Italian producer of PET and rPET preforms. The company is the largest PET recycler in Latin America.
