UPM Biochemicals and German distributor Brenntag have entered into a sole distribution agreement in Europe for UPM BioPura bio mono-ethylene glycol (Bio-Meg). Bio-Meg can be used in a variety of applications, including PET, polyester, industrial coolants, and textiles.
UPM produces a range of sustainable alternatives to fossil-based carbon black, precipitated silica, and other filler materials for the rubber and plastic markets. The fillers are produced from sustainably sourced, certified forest and produced on land not competing with agricultural uses. UPM BioPura will be produce d from hardwood obtained from regional forest around Leuna, Germany, where the company is building the world’s first industrial scale biorefinery.
Brenntag will distribute the new product in Europe. It was chosen for the task due its diversified geographic, industry, and production spread, according to a company statement. The Berlin-based chemicals distributor is presented in 142 locations in Europe.
“As we evaluated potential partners, we were impressed by Brenntag’s strong distribution network across Europe, as well as its holistic approach to sustainability,” Michael Duetsch, vice president of biochemicals at UPM explained. “Brenntag has demonstrated that they can market, deliver, and promote the advantages of sustainable solutions.”
This May, Brenntag signed another distribution agreement with ML Polyolefins.
