UK plastics recycler Vanden Recycling has expanded its presence in the Middle East and eastern European regions, with the opening of an office in Istanbul, Turkey.
The Turkish arm, trading as Vanden Polimer Geri Donusum AS, will be led by Derya Eksi, who has over 13 years of experience in the plastics material industry, said Vanden in a statement 7 Jan.
‘‘Our goal in Turkey is to help the local plastic manufacturing market increase its use of recycled content. Vanden will provide access to international markets for recycled resins and products made in Turkey”, explained CEO Damien van Leuven.
Turkey’s current recycling rate stands at 13%, but a recent zero waste initiative aims to increase the figure to 35% by 2023, according to Vanden.
The recycler said it would “align with this initiative” by working on the perception of plastic and providing plastic manufacturers with recycling solutions.
The Turkish unit follows the establishment of an office in Dubai, United Arab Emirates, in November, aimed at extending the company’s recycling services to the Persian Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) region.
The Dubai unit works with local manufacturers, waste management companies and authorities to develop the recycling infrastructure in the region, company CEO Damien van Leuven told PNE in November.
Vanden intends to build recycling capacity in the region within two years, according to the CEO.
Vanden Recycling has a reprocessing facility in Cambridgeshire, the UK, where it processes 30 tonnes of plastic a day.
The UK plant has four dedicated production lines handling high volume, single streams of plastic including ABS, PA, PC, PE, PET, PP, PS and PVC.
