Mumbai—At the Plastics Recycling Show India, UFlex Limited, India’s largest integrated flexible packaging and solutions company, was a highly visible exhibitor. Among other developments, 2024 saw UFlex commission a new PET post-consumer recycling site in Egypt to complement its existing recycling infrastructure in India, Mexico, and Poland. The plant has an installed capacity of 18000 MT per year.
Called Flex P. Films (Egypt) S.A.E., the company is a step-down subsidiary of UFlex Ltd. The PCR-dedicated plant is equipped with sorting, washing, drying, and grinding facilities for mechanically recycling post-consumer PET bottles into recycled PET (rPET) flakes, pellets, granules, and chips used to produce PET Film.
This added capacity allowed UFlex Limited to make significant strides in fiscal year 2024 towards fulfilling its commitment to environmental sustainability. The company recycled 478 million PET bottles, equivalent to 6,638 metric tons of PET bottle waste and 6,964 metric tons of multi-layer plastic (MLP).
At PRSI, UFlex showcased a range of post-consumer-grade PCR Films with up to 30-50% recycled PET content. Its Noida, India-based subsidiary Flex Films also offers 100% post-consumer recycled PET content under the brand name ‘Asclepius’.
“We are gearing up to meet the Indian government-mandated plastic recycling guidelines starting April 2025, envisaging 10% recycled content in packaging for flexibles and 30% for rigid plastics. We are showcasing the polyester film with recycled content ranging from 30-50% as the demand is more in this range now. UFlex has the capability to manufacture packaging films up to 1000% recycled content,” Ashish Saxena, Joint President, Film Business, UFlex Limited, told Sustainable Plastics.
