Carton packaging manufacturer Tetra Pak has developed and is ready to deploy its new portfolio of tethered cap solutions, well ahead of the EU’s July 2024 deadline. The company is also working to expand its assortment of paper straws, as part of a more comprehensive effort to move towards more sustainable food packaging options. Both developments mark the latest additions to its range of responsible end-to-end solutions, allowing manufacturers to achieve their ambitions in three essential areas – food safety, food waste and the environment - simultaneously.
The new tethered caps were developed across various project streams, covering approximately 40 different packages, all required to be redesigned with new caps.
The first one to be released on the market is the HeliCap 26 Pro closure. It comes with a new screw and flip designe with a self-locking hinge, securing food protection while providing convenience for in-home consumption. Next to meeting the legal requirements for cap designs, the opening and closing mechanism has also proven to be unexpectedly popular with consumers. All the new caps in the portfolio will also become available in a bio-based version in due course.
