Supernovas, a circular design and lifestyle company with roots in Italy and the UK, has introduced a collection of easy-to-assemble 100% recycled and recyclable crates and benches, designed in collaboration with Rotterdam-based design studio Odd Matter.
The material for the collection is derived from recycled PE and PET post-consumer waste streams. To ensure recyclability, all the pieces in the new line feature a mono-material structure, with no glue used. The products are delivered in flat packs using completely recycled and recyclable packaging and are easily assembled without using tools.
In alignment with the circular economy approach, Supernovas has also launched a new membership programme called Streaming, designed to encourage people to return or exchange the pieces when they feel the need for change. Owners can also request for the products to be reprocessed into a something new, to prevent these from ever becoming waste again.
The Afterlife collection enables the dynamic lifestyles of today’s consumers and proving that, if treated with creativity, waste can be beautiful and integrated into everyday life, said Supernovas founder Massimiliano Rossi. He believes that to make a positive impact on the planet, recycled products must not only be sustainable, but desirable.
“Odd Matter’s design process starts from the materials, which then dictate the design and aesthetic. The studio has an innate talent for colours and materials, making them the ideal partner to develop a product that transforms waste into beauty, and to bring functionality out of line,” he said.
