Brussels, Belgium-based Solvay has won the 2022 Suppliers Partnership Award for Creativity in Implementing Sustainable Practices. The award recognises ‘companies that demonstrate remarkable creativity in implementing environmental sustainability programs and practices within the global automotive supply chain’.
A committee of leading SP OEM members, including Ford, General Motors, Honda, Stellantis and Toyota hailed the company’s development of a new, partially bio-based polyphthalamide (PPA) called Amodel BIOS PPA designed to support automotive carbon reduction targets while also delivering on the technical targets needed for new electric vehicle components.
As a tier 2/3 raw material supplier of specialty polymers, Solvay is also working to reduce its carbon footprint at their Augusta, Georgia manufacturing facility, contributing to decreasing the entire carbon footprint across the automotive industry.
The company is addressing its energy, waste, and water usage at the manufacturing plant, amongst others through the use of 100 % renewable electricity to produce the new PPA resin there.
