Switzerland-based packaging manufacturer SIG has become a networking partner of the Ellen MacArthur Foundation (EMF).
All companies in EMF’s network must align to its vision for the circular economy which is based on three principles: eliminate waste and pollution, circulate products and materials, and regenerate nature. They must also set, or be in the process of setting, ambitious targets, and demonstrate progress towards said targets.
SIG said it aims to push forward the transition towards circular packaging systems through the collaboration. Access to the network is expected to accelerate the company’s commitment to reduce waste, improve recyclability, and increase the use of renewable materials.
“SIG is proud to be a network partner of the Ellen MacArthur Foundation. This reflects our unwavering commitment to building a sustainable future,” said Samuel Sigrist, CEO of SIG. “Joining this global network aligns with our mission to innovate and lead the packaging industry towards a circular economy, where resources are reused, waste is minimised, and products are designed to benefit both people and the planet. Together, we want to redefine what’s possible by working together to create packaging solutions that not only meet today’s needs but also ensure a thriving tomorrow.”
In 2023, SIG opened a packaging development centre in Germany. It focusses on speeding up sustainable packaging solutions, which include SIG Terra circular polymers with 100% attributed recycled plastic, and aluminium-free aseptic cartons.
