Robinson has acquired Denmark-based Schela Plast in a strategic deal that will will allow the UK-headquartered company to expand its geographical reach into Northern Europe.
Robinson, who is already active in Eastern Europe through its production sites in Poland, said the investment, achieved on the back of three years of successful growth, is part of the company’s ‘dynamic’ development strategy.
CEO Helene Roberts said the acquisition was an exciting evolution in the Robinson journey, only made possible because both companies are aligned in purpose, core values, and relevance for their customer base.
“This transition is not only driven by efficiencies but more importantly, with planned expansion in our existing customer base, will create jobs in support of Robinson being a future-fit organisation,” she said.
Founded in 1971, Schela Plast currently employs over 40 people, serving both local and international markets in similar sectors to Robinson. Like Robinson, the company has seen an increase in demand for personal care and household product packaging due to the Covid pandemic.
Schela Plast produces extrusion blow moulded packaging and boasts both tool making and product design capability. The company offers a broad range of bottle and container sizes and is committed to using a high level of recycled content and renewable materials. The additional technical and design capabilities will increase capacity, helping to continue to meet the growing needs of Robinson’s customers.
“We are complementary organisations, with agility, confidence, and the highest customer service,” said Morten Jeppesen, Managing Director of the Schela Plast business in Denmark. “We are thrilled to become a part of the Robinson family.”
The acquisition will enable Robinson’s more extrusion blow moulded packaging customers in the North to be supplied more locally. Many companies in Europe and the UK are returning to regionalised production in the pandemic and as transport is a significant contributor to carbon credentials in the supply chain, the location of Schela Plast fits well with Robinson’s sustainability strategy.
Robinson currently has 3 plants in the UK, and 2 in Poland. The company will continue to invest in new machinery in both the UK and Poland to ensure they remain responsive to the needs of key customers locally.
