Saica Flex, a division of Saica Group, has introduced a new pouch made from recycled polyethylene for packaging detergent tablets. The pouch is part of the company’s new Greenheart packaging line and contains recycled resin in up to 45% of the total weight of the pack recycled.
According to Miguel Yetano, Marketing Director, Saica Flex, the options to produce new high-quality value-added packaging from recycled materials ‘are still quite limited’.
“This project shows our commitment towards achieving a truly circular economy, especially for plastic packaging, in line with the strategy set by the EU Commission,” he said.
In the Greenheart packaging line, virgin PE has been replaced by recycled PE in a wide range of non-food applications.
The characteristics of the new pouch, said the company, rival those produced with virgin materials, with optimum results obtained both in the packaging conversion and in the form-fill-seal process.
Saica Natur Cycle Plus provided the recycled material, a high quality recycled low-density polyethylene resin (rLDPE) suitable for use in the production of new primary packaging. Natur Cycle Plus resin is certified by EuCertPlast as 100% post-consumer recycled content.
