The Green Organisation has awarded RPC Containers Oakham a Green Apple Gold Award for a plastic paint can for Dulux Colours that uses one-quarter recycled material.
The accolade was in the category ‘Packaging that improves the sustainability of the product supply chain', which recognised the environmental credentials of the injection moulded PP containers for AkzoNobel Decorative Paints.
The lightweight containers come in a charcoal-black, which replaces the previous white can and creates “a vivid contrast between the container and the paint”, according to RPC.
Recycled material used in the cans is supplied by Regain and is sourced from domestic and overseas consumer markets.
Bryan Glasper, RPC's sustainability manager, said: “To receive a Green Apple Award is a major accolade and reinforces the commitment of RPC to helping our customers reduce their carbon footprint.”
The Green Organisation is an independent, non-political, non-activist, non-profit environment group dedicated to recognising, rewarding and promoting environmental best practice around the world.
