Aiming to grow its production capacities to be better able to satisfy customer demand, Revalyu Resources, a major player in the global chemical PET recycling sector, has now launched its second PET recycling plant in Nashik, India.
The Nashik site ‘highlights our strategic ambition to cement our leadership in the global PET recycling market’ said Makarand Kulkarni, CEO of revalyu India, at the commissioning of the plant.
With the opening of the second plant, the Nashik site now processes over 20 million used PET bottles daily, converting them into 160 tonnes of high-quality PET chips and polymers each day. These recycled materials are utilised by clients in sectors ranging from packaging and textiles to automotive accessories, contributing to their sustainability goals. The construction of a third plant, fully financed with a $100 million investment, is underway and will add an additional 120 tonnes per day of capacity by the third quarter of 2025. Upon completion, the site will recycle about 35 million post-consumer plastic bottles daily, increasing total production capacity to 280 tonnes.
Founded with a vision to address post-consumer PET waste in a meaningful way, today revalyu employs patented glycolysis-based recycling technologies and automated systems that make operations highly efficient, scalable, profitable, and easily replicable. Using used plastic bottles as an input, revalyu can produce sustainable esters, cheaper than traditional petrochemical ester plants using PTA and MEG. The process uses 75% less water and 91% less energy than traditional oil-based PET production, producing high-quality recycled products equivalent to traditional PET. At scale, In addition to processing used PET plastic bottles, the company is also developing the know-how to process diverse feedstocks such as polyester textiles, PET packaging and PET film.
The company spends approximately 5% of its annual budget on technology innovation and improvement to ensure it remains at the forefront of the technological realisation of the PET circular economy. As Vivek Tandon, founder of the revalyu Group, said: “This is a transformative period for the PET plastic recycling industry.”
“This milestone celebrates revalyu’s contribution to global plastic circularity. Our 100% post-consumer recycled polymer can replace conventional PET in any application, fostering a sustainable cycle. Our new plant proves this chemical recycling process’s commercial viability on a global scale and its low environmental impact,” added Jan van Kisfeld, Managing Director of revalyu.
Revalyu Resources intends to establish a 240 tonne- per-day PET recycling facility in the US by 2027 and has is looking to expand globally with partnerships to increase its production to over 1000 tonnes per day by 2030.
The Revalyu Group is headquartered in Germany and operates in India (Revalyu Recycling) and the USA (Revalyu US LLC).Its majority shareholder is the Germany-based technology company Heraeus.
