Repsol has further expanded its offering of circular polypropylene polymers with the addition of 4 new materials for the automotive market and 3 for the non-food packaging sectors, the company has announced. The new, low-carbon materials incorporate high percentages of recycled plastic content verified under the UNE 15343 standard.
The low-carbon materials for the automotive industry have been designed with up to 80% post-consumer recycled content in their formulation and are suitable for applications such as vehicle lighting systems, hidden interior components and under-the-bonnet parts with stringent mechanical stress resistance requirements. According to Repsol, these are the first materials offering a sustainable alternative for applications in which such solutions had up until now been lacking.
Repsol has also added another three injection moulding grades have been added to its Reciclex range of non-food packaging, each formulated with between 50% and 80% recycled content. The new packaging grades, are suitable for household cleaning and drugstore product containers with chemical resistance requirements and paint containers with good mechanical resistance to enable stacking, among others.
The new materials are part of the circular economy strategy implemented by Repsol in 2016. This strategy is consistently applied throughout the value chain, from obtaining raw materials to commercialising products and services and includes the company’s aim to recycle the equivalent of 20% of the polyolefins it produces by 2030 and to achieve zero net emissions by 2050.
