Spanish petrochemical Repsol and Elix Polymers have partnered to introduce ABS grades with 100% attributed chemically recycled content.
Elix Polymers, a Spain-based producer of styrene-based thermoplastics, is adding new grades to its E-Loop portfolio, which includes both mechanically and chemically recycled materials.
As part of the initiative, Repsol supplies styrene and butadiene derived from chemically recycled post-consumer waste and bio-circular raw materials sourced from used cooking oil, depending on the final application and customer requirements.
Repsol also contributes by securing ISCC Plus certification for E-Loop chemically recycled grades through the mass balance model.
Elix Polymers and Repsol first entered a supply agreement for chemically recycled in 2020.
In 2019, Repsol joined the joined Styrenics Circular Solutions (SCS), the joint industry initiative to increase the circularity of styrenic polymers. At the time the company said it believes that polystyrene's intrinsic properties make styrenics perfectly suited to fully close the loop, allowing full recyclability.
The company’s chemically recycled portfolio also includes EVA and polyol.
