With the purchase of 100% of the shares in Veolia Recycling Solutions Nordic AB,

Germany’s Remondis International has now secured a significant position on the Swedish market. The deal also includes all 65 sites run by Veolia Recycling in Sweden, where the main activities are described by Remondis as “classic recycling with a high proportion of the collection, processing and marketing of recycled raw materials, services and industrial cleaning.”The acquisition marks the first entry into the Swedish market for industrial cleaning.

“We are delighted to be able to considerably extend our market presence in Scandinavia,” said Werner Hols, CEO North & West Europe, Remondis.

The acquisition will enable the company to expand the range of services available to its national and international customers in the Nordic countries, he added. By expanding our Swedish presence with 65 new locations, we have succeeded in taking an important step.”

Both parties have agreed not to disclose the purchase price or further details of the acquisition.

The transaction is subject to the approval of the antitrust authorities.

Remondis is one of the world’s largest privately run recycling, service and water companies with around 800 business locations in over 30 countries and across four continents. Founded in 1934, this family-run business employs more than 38,000 people and generates a turnover of €8.2 billion (2020). The company processes more than 30 million tonnes of recyclable materials annually, operating in many different fields of business. Its activities range from recovering valuable raw materials from industrial and household waste, to producing high quality recycled raw materials, all the way through to transforming non-recyclable materials into a range of different fuels. Moreover, the company is increasingly helping to advance the switch from fossil fuels to renewables by using biomass as a source of energy.
