Recycling Technologies (RT), the Swindon-based plastics recycling technology company, has joined with Total, the energy and plastics compounder, and food companies Nestle and Mars, in a new consortium.
The group will look into the advanced recycling of plastic packaging wastes so they can be incorporated into new products.
RT will act as the technology provider, supplying its pyrolysis-based recycling technology to support processing of hard-to-recycle laminated plastics.
The goal is to increase the use of recycled plastic across all packaging and ensure all new packaging is recyclable, compostable or reusable by 2025.
The consortium believes that collaboration across the value chain is key to identifying and demonstrating solutions needed to address the plastic waste problem.
A key element of delivering on the end goals will be the use of the Plaxx oil produced by RT. This will be used in testing and production of new polymer.
The Plaxx product can be used by polymer producers, such as Total, to deliver virgin-grade products with recycled content which are suitable for use with food products.
