UK technical plastics recycler Luxus has made a further two appointments to its graduate academy – Robert Silvester and Simon Thompson, taking its total intake to four in the last year.
Sheffield University graduate Robert Silvester (22) has a BSc (Hons) in physics and Bishop Grosseteste University College Lincoln graduate Simon Thompson (22) has a BSc in education and maths. They both joined Luxus as they were interested in pursuing science related apprenticeships with good career development opportunities.
Peter Atterby, managing director, Luxus, said: “We're delighted to add Robert and Simon to our growing number of apprentices. Finding young people with the right technical skills however can be difficult, as we all know the talent crisis in UK manufacturing has been well documented in recent years, but we believe that increasing interest in our academy can help us to really address this skills gap.
“The Luxus Academy not only offers a practical insight into polymer science and engineering, but it also provides a genuine overview of all our key business operations too. This means that on completing the programme they will have acquired both new skills and a comprehensive understanding of the company.
“Job satisfaction has always been an important issue for us – that's why currently a third of our workforce has been with us for over a decade.”
