Mumbai, India-headquartered ReCircle, has been certified under the prestigious Ocean Bound Plastic (OBP) Certification Program by Zero Plastic Oceans (ZPO).
The certification is an independent, third-party certification of ocean-bound plastics recycling supply chains to ensure they meet international environment, ethical and labour standards.
ReCircle, which has grown from a grassroots-level waste collection aggregator into a thriving waste recovery company handling 8,800 kg/hour, was founded in 2016 by Rahul Nainani and Gurashish Singh Sahni. Their aim was to develop a system to divert waste away from landfills and oceans, back into the economy to be recycled, reused or repurposed. Today, as a technology-enabled enterprise, ReCircle enables transparency, traceability and accountability in the resource value chain, as demonstrated by its having successfully achieved OBP certification.
Certification under the OBP certification programme provides confirmation of ReCircle’s ‘adequate and ethical collection’ of Ocean Bound Plastic waste, benefiting the environment and local communities, and its efforts to minimise its environmental footprint through effective waste management.
In addition, OBP certification further validates ReCircle’s traceability claims and the fact that the company
collects and eliminates non-commercially recyclable Ocean Bound Plastic, while verifying and tracing plastic credits.
“At ReCircle, we believe that a sustainable future is within reach, and with initiatives like the OBP Certification Program, we are getting one step closer to achieving it,” said Rahul Nainani, co-founder & CEO, ReCircle.
Marine plastic pollution is a multifaceted problem — and we are one part of the solution, he added.
