PureCycle Technologies and Landbell Group have announced a strategic partnership to enhance the recycling of polypropylene (PP) plastics across Europe. PureCycle, known for its groundbreaking plastic recycling technologies, has teamed up with Landbell Group, a leader in closed-loop recycling solutions and operator of multiple producer responsibility organisations (PROs).
The collaboration is focused on upcycling PP waste into high-purity, recycled materials for high-demand applications throughout Europe. PureCycle Belgium will employ its unique solvent-driven purification recycling process, similar to its facility in Ironton, Ohio, which can handle up to 48,600 tonnes annually. This innovative process converts PP waste into PureFive recyclate that rivals virgin PP in quality and can be repeatedly recycled.
Since January 2024, PureCycle Belgium and Landbell Group have been working together to streamline PP waste recycling efforts. Landbell Group will leverage its expertise in collecting, sorting, and processing plastics from European households to supply PP waste to PureCycle’s forthcoming plant in Antwerp, Belgium. This facility is projected to achieve a capacity of 59,000 tonnes per year.
Wiebe Schipper, VP of European and Asia Pacific Operations at PureCycle, highlighted the initiative as a major advancement towards plastic circularity in Europe, aligning with both companies' sustainability goals. Uwe Echteler, COO of Landbell Group, emphasised the collaboration as a means to enhance recycling rates and provide high-quality recycled PP, helping producers meet the new regulatory requirements.
The partnership is set to drive better recycling outcomes for thermoplastic polymers widely used in various packaging sectors, ultimately fostering a circular economy. PureCycle’s advanced recycling methods will complement Landbell Group’s extensive infrastructure and experience in environmental compliance solutions, creating robust pathways for sustainable development.
