PureCycle Technologies Inc. broke ground this week on the company's second polypropylene recycling facility in Augusta, Ga.

The company, which is nearing completion of its initial location in Ironton, Ohio, is using solvent-based technology licensed from Procter & Gamble Co.

The new site in Georgia, once complete, will be able to house up to eight PP recycling lines and have the capacity to produce about 1 billion pounds of "like-new recycled plastic annually," the company said.

"This is an exciting time for PureCycle as we expand our operations into the Southeast and bring our versatile, recycled plastic to the region," PureCycle CEO Mike Otworth said in a statement. "Our second facility, when completed, will transform No. 5 plastic waste — one of the most commonly used and least recycled plastics in the world — into an ultra-pure material that can be used to make consumer products."

PureCycle also recently raised $250 million in private equity to help fund the Augusta location. The first two lines, with a combined capacity of 260 million tons, are expected to be constructed by next year's fourth quarter, the company said.
