Phabuilder Biotechnology Co., a China-based PHA manufacturing and engineering spinoff of China's tier 1 institute, Tsinghua University, and Hengxin Life Science & Technology Co., Ltd., a producer of disposable cups and tableware have announced what is claimed to be one of the largest orders in the PHA industry ever for PHA straw, coatings and injection-moulded products.
Chairman Deping Yan of Hengxin Life called the partnership the "foundation for the future of marine-degradable tableware."
Phabuilder has successfully engineered a PHA material that resists high temperatures, features robust barrier properties, and can be customised to meet different demands in terms of colour, transparency, and shape.
According to Ms. Sherry Xu, Chairwoman of Phabuilder, the recently launched PHA straws can withstand temperatures beyond 90°C, satisfying the demand for sustainable hot drink solutions.
"As society becomes more attuned to environmental concerns, there's a clear trend towards responsible and sustainable alternatives.,” she said. “Our PHA-based offerings, developed via a low-carbon, chemical-free approach, respond to this demand. They seamlessly connect consumer choices with environmental responsibilities."
Phabuilder’s products have been certified by third-party organisations such as TÜV AUSTRIA, BPI, and European DIN, to back up and validate all claims to biodegradability and biocompostability.
Phabuilder Biotechnology also announced a new initiative at the recent 3rd PHA World Congress, aligned with its ”From Microbes to a Green Future” vision. The company will be stratifying its PHA activities along the three different categories of activities - PHAmily (PHA polymers exploration), PHAbrary (diverse research), and PHAdustry (industrial-scale production) - to benefit more deeply from the synergies between each. The company will continue to explore the 150 PHA monomers, aiming to uncover new applications ranging from daily essentials to medical health and high-end products. Through PHAmily, it will collaborate with partners around the globe to accelerate the exploration, development, and commercial applications of PHA biopolymers, in alignment with global sustainability objectives.
The present partnership between Phabuilder and Hengxin Life is an initial step in this direction.
