Swedish specialty chemicals company Perstorp has converted part of its facilities in Perstorp Industrial Park in Perstorp, Sweden for the production of disinfectant materials for the country’s frontline healthcare workers.
The global COVID-19 pandemic has made the shortage of disposables such as sanitizers is a major challenge and an issue of ‘great priority’ for authorities across the country tasked with public health procurement. Perstorp launched the large-scale production of hand sanitiser and surface disinfectant this week, having successfully rushed through the permits and agreements for production with the authorities and production chain partners in record time together.
The company will continue for as long as the acute shortage of disinfection products in the Swedish healthcare sector, that regular suppliers cannot fulfil, persists. Perstorp, which is offering the products at cost price, has the capacity to produce more than 2 million litres per month. This capacity is expected to exceed the healthcare sector’s current disinfection shortage.
“This is our contribution to the important work that healthcare professionals are doing every day,” said Jan Secher, CEO of Perstorp Group. “Extraordinary times call for extraordinary care. Our large scale production capacity can make a real difference at this time and help to solve the disinfectant shortage in the healthcare sector.”
Perstorp is working to produce the disinfectant within a network of partners. Ethanol, a key ingredient, is being supplied by Absolut Company. This is delivered to the Perstorp industrial plant with help of Univar Solutions and ExxonMobil. The disinfectant is bottled by Lefab Production and transported by Bertschi, Scandibulk och Eurolink to Socialstyrelsen, which distributes the products to healthcare services in regions across Sweden.
The first delivery is expected to reach Socialstyrelsen after the Easter weekend.
