Rubber and polymer industry journalist and publisher Heinz Bijoy Prosad Gupta has died at the age of 88.
Born in Kolkata, India, in 1932, he passed away on 30 September in Ratingen Germany.
Heinz Gupta was the founder of Dr. Gupta Verlag (today Dr. Gupta Verlags GmbH) publishing group, and for many years served as editor-in-chief of polymer magazine GAK Gummi Fasern Kunststoffe.
He was also the publisher of various national and international specialist journals within the rubber, polyurethane and thermoplastic elastomer industries until 2019.
Gupta studied chemistry at the University of Bonn, Germany, where he also received his doctorate. On graduating, he joined Kabelwerke Duisburg and Paguag (Pahlsche Gummi- und Asbest-Gesellschaft) in Düsseldorf.
In 1970, began work as a consultant to various manufacturers of tires, moulded articles and sponge rubber products. Two years later, he became editor-in-chief of Gummi-Asbest-Kunststoffe, or GAK, a title published since 1948 by Gentner Verlag.
His extensive network of contacts and the expertise acquired through his experience in industry and as a consultant proved an excellent basis for further success, leading him to found Dr. Gupta Verlag in 1993, while continuing to run GAK himself.
In 2006, as a mark of gratitude he was recognised by the German Rubber Society for special achievements in research, technology and business for his lifetime of service to the field.
