Spain-based bioplastics producer Nurel has announced that in response to the strong and growing demand for its sustainable Inzea biopolymers, it has installed a third production line at its site in Zaragoza.
Inzea bioplastics are bio-based, biodegradable and compostable materials with a renewable content of up to 85 percent. The materials are based on non-genetically modified polylactic acid and starch and are suitable for application such as shopping bags, horticulral products and agricultural films manufacture. The entire range is food-contact approved and suitable for food packaging and disposable serviceware applications.
Nurel, a member company of the Samca Group, opened its first industrial production facility in 2015, following an ambitious R&D programme launched in 2010.
A second line was installed in 2018 to increase production volume and complete the range of Inzea product range. With the installation of this third line, Nurel has become one of the largest bioplastics facility in Europe with an annual production capacity of 26,000 tons. The additional capacity will help the company to meet the strong demand for these products in the Latin American markets.
The Inzea product range is USDA Certified Biobased Product compliant, which is based on the ASTM D6866 standard. The OK compost label for Inzea guarantees compliance with EN 13432, the European standard for compostability in industrial compost plants.
