PE supplier Nova Chemicals Corporation has launched a new mechanically recycled HDPE grade sourced from natural HDPE milk jugs that, says the company, is highly suitable for flexible and rigid food packaging applications. FDA-compliant, the new grade is part of the company's recently released Syndigo rPE portfolio and the company’s first mechanically recycled food-contact resin.
The resins in the Syndigo portfolio, comprised of a range of lower-emission, recycled polyethylene (rPE) solutions, are sold by Nova Circular Solutions, a new business line launched by Nova Chemicals in February. Syndigo rPE-0860-FC, as the new resin has been called, is a lower-emission option compared to virgin polyethylene. It is intended as an alternative for converters and brand owners striving to move towards more sustainable products and packaging.
"By adding the first food-contact rPE to the SYNDIGO portfolio, we're supporting our mission of increasing rPE usage to demonstrate our commitment to eliminating plastic waste and reducing the carbon footprint of plastic packaging," said Alan Schrob, NOVA Chemicals director of mechanical recycling.
In addition to the new product, the Syndigo portfolio currently consists of three other resins, which can be used in a variety of non-food contact applications from e-commerce mailers to shrink to industrial films.
Nova Circular Solutions and the Syndigo brand are headquartered with Nova Chemicals’ head office in Calgary, AB, Canada. The products in the Syndigo portfolio are currently available in North America only.
