Rising demand for high quality PCR plastic is driving companies to seek out new partners as the need to secure supplies of recycled content materials becomes ever more imperative.
In line with this trend, Nova Chemicals Corporation announced 17 November a long-term agreement with Circulus Holdings, a California-based LDPE film recycler that opened its first recycling facility in July of this year. Two more locations are in construction in Ardmore, Okla., and Arab, Ala., and another two are under development in the Midwest and Northeast.
Under the present agreement, Circulus will supply Nova with recycled polyethylene from its facility, broadening Nova Chemicals’ sources of post-consumer resin, expanding its portfolio, and increasing available supply for customers. Circulus produces a linear low-density/low-density recycled polyethylene blend (rLLDPE/LDPE), which is ideal for flexible packaging such as heavy-duty sacks, e-commerce cushioning and mailers, stretch wrap, and collation shrink.
“This agreement with Circulus will help us fulfill value chain demand for rPE and help brand owners and retailers achieve their packaging sustainability goals,” said Greg DeKunder, Vice President of Polyethylene Marketing and Circular Economy.
The demand for high quality PCR plastic in packaging is forecast to increase significantly. This sets the stage for a strategic relationship with opportunity for future growth.
“We are thrilled to work with NOVA Chemicals and supply them with our high-quality post-consumer resin,” said David Hudson, the founder & CEO of Circulus. “Through this collaboration and our mutual interest in mechanical recycling, we will drive impactful improvement in the ways PCR is used in consumer goods and packaging.”
