A fire has destroyed material at a recycling plant south of Wigan.
Blakeley's Waste Management, which offers waste management and recycling throughout the North West of England, has been damaged by a blaze at a 500 square metre building on Bickershaw Lane in Hindley.
Fire officers from Hindley, Wigan and Atherton attended the scene – local residents were advised to keep their windows shut.
"We're opearating as normal," said Graeme Knight, general manager at Blakeley's, who confirmed that the overall damage was minimal.
Blakeley's, which processes 500 tonnes of waste a day, only last month announced the purchase of a flying beam infrared sorting system from TiTech in Germany to separate recyclables from the waste stream.
