On this second day of the world’s biggest rubber and plastics trade show, Steve Toloken’s coverage of the speech made by state secretary for the Environment Christiane Rohleder, neatly encapsulates the raison d’être for the need - and success - of this triennial fair.
He quotes her as follows: “It’s encouraging to see so many impressive innovations here in the exhibition halls. You actually need this innovation for the necessary transformation to an energy-neutral circular economy.”
This issue includes: an unveiling, with KraussMaffei launching additive manufacturing as the fourth technology offered by the company; Dupont talks about the 'push' on sustainability, internally and externally; Erema's vision for a circular future; and a professor who goes to great lengths in his field studies on microplastics. His latest feat was to swim the Danube river, to draw attention to the fact that every day, 4.2 tonnes of microplastics run down the river and enter the Black Sea.
