Waste Free Oceans (WFO) has helped form a new partnership with the leading frozen food brand in Belgium - Iglo - to fight plastic waste pollution.
As part of the project, Danish cleantech company Plastix recycles discarded and obsolete fishing gear while German packaging firm Papier-Mettler converts the recycled materials into freezer bags.
The bags are then offered as limited edition prizes by Iglo through an activation campaign, in-store, on air and online.
The role of WFO in the partnership was to ‘build the bridge’ between the companies to enable them to create innovative products.
The common goal of the project, said WFO in a statement 24 Sept, is to raise awareness on the importance of protecting the planet.
“Making plastics more circular is part of the solution [to protect the plant]…. As public awareness is increasing, WFO is confident in its capacity to continue providing concrete solutions,” said the organiation.
In a similar partnership launched last year, WFO and German consumer goods manufacturer Henkel AG developed bottles for Henkel’s Lovables laundry brand, using plastic waste collected from waterways.
Waste Free Oceans was founded in 2011 with the mission of partnering with businesses and other organisations to remove plastic from the world's oceans and rivers – and transform it into new items.
