European packaging manufacturer Coveris, based in Vienna, has announced that Martin Berlekamp is its new Group Sustainability Director. The company launched Recover, a business unit entirely dedicated to the circular economy, encompassing all its waste sourcing, processing, and recycling activities, back in December 2022. This June, it opened the second Recover facility for recycling printed polyethylene (PE) films.
The appointment of the new sustainability director ‘completes the Coveris set up, ideally positioning the company to successfully execute its entire Environmental Social Governance (ESG) agenda and achieve its aspiration to become a sustainability leader,” the manufacturer said in a statement.
Berlekamp earned a doctorate in Chemistry from the University of Münster, Germany, and brings with him a wealth of industry expertise and a proven track record in sustainability and ESG. He previously spearheading the sustainability department at the adapa Group, formerly Schur Flexibles, for over five years.
His experience in the global packaging landscape encompasses roles in Research & Development (R&D), Product Management, and Technology Development at industry leaders such as Klöckner Pentaplast and Liveo Research, formerly Bilcare Research.
