With its new Wiltopia line, PlayMobil is aiming to provide more than just fun. The Wiltopia sets, all made with around 80% sustainable materials, are also bringing environmental awareness to children’s play. As the company phrased it: “Wiltopia is about growing up in a world where animals and nature are respected and protected. Knowledge transfer is essential for this, because children can only value, love and protect what they know.”

The sets are comprised of wild animals from around the world in order to introduce children to the diversity of life on Earth. They include role-playing accessories and a collectible animal card with facts about each species. In keeping with the times, a QR code on the card leads to more content in the web app. An AR function allows the animal to be projected directly into the child’s room.
In addition, the materials used to manufacture the sets are part of Wiltopia’s awareness theme. PlayMobil has opted to use biobased or recycled materials to produce the plastic figures in the sets and then launched the new line together with Coolrec, a subsidiary of waste management company Renewi to underline the fact.
The companies have produced a video that explains in simple terms how the Wiltopia pieces are made from the recycled plastics that Coolrec obtains from discarded refrigerators. It shows how the plastics are mechanically recycled by Coolrec into new granulate, to make new products.

The launch of the new line and the release of the video occurred simultaneously on 27 July.
