Neste’s crude oil refinery in Porvoo, Finland, is undergoing a planned maintenance shutdown for the next three months.
The turnaround will contribute to transforming Porvoo into a leading renewable and circular solutions refining hub. The refinery’s transformation is expected to be accomplished by the mid 2030s. Neste will increase its capacity to refine waste, residues, and raw materials into renewable fuels and feedstock for plastics and other materials.
Preparations for the major turnaround began on 1 April with shutdowns of process units. After the refinery shutdown is completed, the actual turnaround works will begin in mid-April and are expected to continue until mid-May. The estimated duration of the turnaround is approximately nine weeks.
During the downtime, the entire Porvoo refinery will be shut down for statutory inspections, maintenance works, and asset improvement initiatives. The works will not affect Neste’s harbour and distribution terminal operations.
The turnaround will impact residents and businesses due to increased flaring, noise, and odour nuisance in the nearby areas, as well as increased traffic volume.
Neste's ambition is to make the Porvoo oil refinery in Finland the most sustainable refinery in Europe by 2030. Neste is committed to reaching carbon-neutral production by 2035 and to reducing the carbon emission intensity of sold products by 50% by 2040.
