Well ahead of the EU’s 2030 deadline for recyclable packaging, AMB has already developed a range of mono-PET packaging solutions that combine performance with sustainability.

With EU legislation requiring packaging in the European Union to be fully recyclable in the EU by 2030, companies are scrambling to develop solutions that will enable them to comply with the new regulations.

Now AMB Spa, an Italy-based supplier of rigid and flexible films, has come up with TotalMono PET, a range of thermoformable top and bottom films that offer important benefits in terms of performance and sustainability in packaging applications. Various grades include recycled content, derived from post-consumer waste.

Designed for recyclability, TotalMono PET bottom films have lower thicknesses compared to multilayer products, which leads to material savings during production as well as weight savings, which means a lower energy consumption during handling and transport - all without compromising on performance.

The downgauging of thicknesses leads to a wide range of possible gauges. AMB’s base and rigid films are available at all standard gauges including a possible downgauge from APET/PE.

Lid films are available in 37 to 60 gauges. The films also feature good barrier properties to protect sensitive foods. The material offers outstanding product protection at thicknesses that are much lower than those of a multilayered structure.

Barriers are all non-EVOH, as EVOH has a negative impact on the PET recycling stream and is not in accordance with the main European recycling guideline.

The films are fully printable, offer excellent sealability and robust tear resistance during processing.

The new films are targeted at packaging for fresh and processed meat, dairy and other food products that require high protection.

AMB, located in Amaro, in the northeast part of Italy, is a full-service film manufacturer offering a complete end-to-end process for its customers. The company supplies design, prototyping and tooling services, in addition to producing rigid, flexible, printed & laminated films. AMB has 5 locations in Europe, with 435 employees.
