Metal replacement: New metal-plated material with 20% UBQ launched

    UBQ Materials, the Israeli domestic waste-based materials producer headquartered in Tel Aviv has announced the launch of a new partnership with Haifa-based Polymertal, a metallised polymers specialist who develops metal plating processes for the creation of cost-effective metal-polymer parts.

    The partnership has enabled the development and release of a new product from Polymertal called SPP-50XX.
    SPP-50XX is a new sustainable material with metallic properties with a substrate made from 20% UBQ and 80% polypropylene topped with a metal plating layer of copper and nickel of varying thicknesses, resulting in a lightweight part that exhibits key metallic properties, including durability, stiffness, heat resistance, and electromagnetic shielding.
    Incorporating UBQ in SPP-50XX’s base substrate substantially lowers the carbon footprint of the materials compared to a lightweight metal such as aluminium - by 50%, as verified by World Watchers, a German organisation that empowers businesses, communities and individuals to become carbon neutral.

    Targeted applications include automotive, industrial, and consumer products.
    “Countless applications require materials that are lightweight, withstand high-temperature environments, and are thermally and electrically conductive,” said Ran Carmeli, CEO of Polymertal. “SPP-50XX exhibits all these features, and the presence of UBQ brings sustainability earlier in the supply chain, making it even easier for manufacturers to reduce the overall carbon footprint of their end products.”

    UBQ Materials Ltd. has developed an advanced conversion technology to produce UBQ, made entirely from unsorted household waste, including all the organics. UBQ is a drop-in material that can be integrated into existing manufacturing processes to reduce the carbon footprint of end-products in a wide variety of industries and applications.
