LyondellBasell’s chief sustainability officer Andrea Brown has been recognised as a pioneer of Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) by Global Compact Network USA, the US chapter of the United Nations initiative on corporate sustainability.
Chosen from a network of more than 900 businesses and organisations, Brown has been recognised for ‘driving substantial progress in sustainability’ at LyondellBasell, one of the world’s largest plastics and chemicals companies.
She has spearheaded the development of LyondellBasell's sustainability strategy, focusing on eliminating plastic waste whilst supporting societal well-being. Brown’s focus on recycled plastic has propelled LyondellBasell's sustainable practices forward, Network USA said, signifying substantial progress toward achieving environmental sustainability goals.
LyondellBasell’s sustainability goals include producing 2 million tonnes of recycled and renewable based-polymers annually by 2030 and achieving net zero greenhouse gas emissions from operations by 2050.
The Netherlands-based company has developed both mechanical and chemical plastics recycling technologies and has various recycling operations across the globe.
As the winner of the US award, Brown will compete in the global round along with other candidates for the 2024 UN Global Compact SDG Pioneers title. The global winners will be announced this September during the UN Global Compact Leaders Summit.
She joined LyondellBasell in 2019 as global director sustainability and has served as chief sustainability officer since 2022. Prior to this, she led impact strategy for Quadia, a private equity company in Switzerland investing in scaling the circular economy and spent ten years at the World Business Council for Sustainable Development (WBCSD), the leading CEO-led organisation working to accelerate the sustainable transition.
