Texas-based provider of process technologies Lummus Technology and Dongyang Environment Group, a waste management company, have signed an agreement to deploy Lummus’ chemical recycling technology in South Korea.
The new plant will be located in Seosan, Chungcheongnam-do, and will be operated by Dongyang Environment's subsidiary, Seohae Green Chemical. The company did not disclose the plant’s planned capacity.
Lummus’ Green Circle business unit will provide Dongyang Environment with its pyrolysis plastic recycling technology, called Lummus New Hope Plastic Pyrolysis Technology. It transforms postconsumer and post-industrial plastic waste into pyrolysis oil that can be fed into suitable existing steam or catalytic crackers for a full circular solution or blended to make sustainable fuels. According to the technical sheet of the technology, the yield for hydrocarbons for further processing is 70%. Lummus' Green Circle is the exclusive global licensing party for this process technology and supports projects by providing basic engineering design packages, proprietary equipment, technical services, and modular execution strategies.
“We are pleased to announce this agreement with Dongyang Environment, one of South Korea’s leading providers of energy and environmental services,” said Greg Shumake, vice president and managing director of Green Circle. “This is a significant step forward in our commitment to the circular economy and to deploying advanced plastics recycling technology in South Korea and other key markets around the world.”
