AI-powered waste sortation systems manufacturer AMP Robotics Corp. has a new leader. The company has appointed Tim Stuart, former chief operating officer for Republic Services Inc. as CEO, while erstwhile CEO Matanya Horowitz, the company’s founder, has transitioned into the role of chief technology officer.
"I founded AMP a decade ago with a vision to change how the world manages its waste, and I’m so proud of what our team has accomplished so far,” said Horowitz. “Tim’s industry knowledge and experience will amplify our ability to compete as a major player in the industry, and I’m grateful to have him on board to help realise the full potential of what we’ve started."
Stuart joined AMP’s board as the company’s first independent director in March 2024. He most recently served as executive vice president and chief operating officer for Republic Services. In that role, Stuart spearheaded the company’s adoption, implementation, and scaling of new technologies while overseeing field operations, integrations, digital operations strategy and execution, and more. He is excited about the potential of the systems built by AMP and looking forward to working with Horowitz, who he described as ‘a brilliant technologist’.
AMP’s sortation systems use AI technology and robots to reduce labour costs, increase resource recovery, and deliver more reliable operations - at scale. Trained in the real world, the company’s AI platform has identified 150 billion items and guided the sortation of more than 2.5 million tons of recyclables. It recognises plastics by material composition, colour, clarity, opacity, and form factor. The robot system then accurately sorts material into high-quality bales.
AMP has three full-scale facilities and more than 400 AI systems deployed across North America, Asia, and Europe.
