Hailed as the first bio-based, biodegradable and plastic-free packaging solution, Lactips, developed in France and based on milk protein, is gaining recognition as an innovative, food contact safe, edible and water soluble packaging material. Now produced at commercial scale, Lactips has entered into a distribution agreement with IMCD Group, a global leading distributor of speciality chemicals and food ingredients to market the material in the Nordic and French regions.
“We are starting with two pilot countries with a potential extension the rest of Europe,” explained Pascal Chabance, head of business development and sales at Lactips.
The company had been seeking a prominent distributor with a well-established footprint across Europe, strong technical sales expertise and a sustainable approach, he said. “IMCD meets all those criteria.”
It is not the first time IMCD has worked with a bioplastics producer and the company has frequently stated its commitment to sustainable material developments.
Calling Lactips’ product ‘a cutting edge innovation’, Patrick van Vugt, EMEA Director of IMCD Advanced Materials Business Group, said IMCD was ‘convinced we can grow this sustainable business together’.
