Barcelona-based Kompuestos (Plásticos Compuestos S.A.), a listed company in the Spanish Alternative Stock Exchange that is active in the production of sustainable plastic compounds in Europe, has been nominated for the European Small and Mid-Cap Awards 2020 in the 'Rising Star' category.
These awards, set up as a joint initiative of the European Commission, leading European securities exchanges and the pan-European organisation EuropeanIssuers, seek to promote best practices and highlight the best European small and mid-sized companies that have gained access to capital markets via an Initial Public Offering.
The awards programme is divided into the categories International Star, Rising Star, Star of Innovation, Star of 2020 and the Special Mention. This Special Mention aims at recognising an initiative, an individual or a company which has had a significant impact on small and mid-cap issuers accessing capital markets. In the EU, more than 98% of all firms are SMEs.
They account for two-thirds of all employment as well as nearly 60% of the gross value added in the EU economy. These companies are critical to European economic recovery and to accomplishing the EU’s goals of job creation, competitiveness and growth.
SMEs require a favourable environment which meets their financing needs, in particular when accessing markets. The organisers of this award programme, which is taking place this year for the eighth time, aim to encourage more small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) to access capital markets via IPOs.
For Kompuestos, it is an honour to be considered for an award which acknowledges the effort that we have made since we started operating, said president and CEO Ignacio Duch.
The company recently introduced two new families of compostable bioplastics under the brand names Biokomp and Okean.
The winners of this year's European Small and Mid-Cap Awards will be announced at the awards ceremony in November.
