Klöckner Pentaplast launches recyclable food-to-go packaging range

German packaging major Klöckner Pentaplast (kp) has launched a new sustainable range of expanded polypropylene packaging for the food service and food-to-go sector.
 
Unveiled earlier this month, kp Infinity is claimed to be fully recyclable, keeping food hotter for longer while offering benefits such as being microwaveable, lightweight, durable, water resistant and resistant to acids, alkalis and hot oils.
 
Based on Borealis polyolefins, the new “next-generation” solution is “infinitely recyclable” if properly collected from waste streams, the company said in a release.
 
For that purpose, the solution carries a bold on-pack ‘recycle me’ note to provide consumers with the message.
 
Produced in the UK, the product has already received “huge interest” from distributors and food-to-go outlets, said Klöckner Pentaplast.
 
The company also said that it had trialled the recyclability of the product with several partners in the UK and in Europe with “successful results”.
 
According to Klöckner Pentaplast, independently run life cycle analyses have proven kp Infinity to be “the most sustainable packaging solution that outperforms other material solutions with significantly reduced energy and water consumption" and offering a "much lower carbon footprint”. 
 
Commenting on the new range, Adam Barnett, president of the food packaging division at Klöckner Pentaplast said kp Infinity answered the need to enhance the sustainable demands of the modern consumer of food-to-go products.
