From 4-10 May, packaging is the name of the game at Messe Düsseldorf. The show has this year again attracted exhibitors from all five continents - more than 2700 of them - and from a total of over 60 countries. The top exhibiting nations are Germany, Italy, China, Turkey, India, the Netherlands, the USA, France, Spain, Switzerland and the United Kingdom.
A few of this year’s highlights in Düsseldorf are:
The Sirmax Group (D13, Hall 9), which is displaying its developments in the sustainable packaging space. Its fast-growing bioplastics and recycled plastics business units are presenting a range of compostable bioplastics that, say the company, can replace HDPE, LDPE and PS in different fields. Marketed under the BioComp brand, they are completely biodegradable and can be disposed of as organic waste. The company is also showcasing a 100% PCR-derived compound for bottle-to-bottle recycling, i.e., for the production of bottles and jerrycans for household cleaning/personal hygiene products and liquid products used in the construction industry. To date, bottle-to-bottle recycling mainly uses blends of recycled plastic and virgin plastic. In contrast, Sirmax aims to use 100% post-consumer, higher-quality plastic, producing a material that is suitable for processing through blow moulding.
