At Fakuma 2024, Germany-based Hellweg Maschinenbau, will debut its innovative LSZ 150/100 edge strip shredder.
The LSZ 150/100 is designed to efficiently shred profiled edge strips—an often-challenging task for conventional granulators. The new machine promises uninterrupted operation, improved performance, and minimal maintenance, marking a significant advancement in plastics recycling technology.
One of the key issues in shredding profiled edge strips is their complex geometry, which can cause traditional feed and chop granulators to struggle. However, Hellweg’s completely redesigned shredder feeds and shreds these strips in a single step. Notably, the LSZ 150/100 operates without the need for a blade, screen, infeed device, or regular resharpening of the toothed rollers, making it a low-maintenance and cost-effective option for operators.
The standout feature of the shredder is its four robust toothed rollers made from solid tool steel billet, which ensure efficient shredding. Unlike other systems that rely on a separate, failure-prone infeed mechanism, the LSZ 150/100 uses its rollers to guide and tension the edge strips away from the sheet material during production. This approach allows for reliable shredding regardless of the strip's shape.
The LSZ 150/100 is particularly useful in industries that produce sheet webs with profiled edges, such as those used in thermoforming products like dimpled sheets or green roof matting. These edge projections can interfere with production lines, but Hellweg’s solution addresses this with a 600 mm oscillating probe arm, which compensates for variations in edge shape, while an integrated switch prevents damage by regulating the shredding process.
In addition to the LSZ 150/100, Hellweg will showcase other granulation technologies, including the R 200/20 Servo edge trimming system. This system efficiently pre-shreds edge strips from film or sheet production, turning them into small chips for further granulation.
