Italian international Guala Closures Group, a leading producer of non-refillable and aluminium beverage closures, has partnered with California-based Oceanworks to develop a range of closures produced using ocean plastics.

Oceanworks, is a digital marketplace launched in 2019 with the aim of addressing the scourge of ocean plastics by connecting local recycled plastic supply with global demand. The marketplace offers ocean and diverted plastic resins, textiles, and products from trusted suppliers worldwide.
The Oceanworks network collects millions of pounds of ocean plastic annually and has now agreed to supply 100% recycled polymers to Guala Closures around the world for use in developing closures for its wine and spirits range. The partnership will support the Group in  transitioning towards more sustainable solutions and in fulfilling its commitment  to use 35% of recycled materials in its products by 2025, said Fulvio Bosano, Guala Closures’ R&D director. Guala Closures will initially use these polymers in the production of its T-bar models for spirits included in the recently launched Blossom range and more models will be introduced soon. The caps produced with 100% recycled Oceanworks polymers have been designed in accordance with the “design to change” model introduced in the company’s recently published eco-design guidelines.

Rob Ianelli, President and Founder of Oceanworks sees the partnership as an ‘opportunity to make a significant impact’. He said the agreement will enable production to be scaled of a more ‘sustainable packaging from materials which would otherwise be polluting our planet’s oceans'.
    "It is a real win-win."
