Greatview, an aseptic packaging company headquartered in Beijing, China, has launched a new, sustainable packaging solution with a high percentage of renewably-sourced content. Called Greatview Planet, the new packaging has been developed in collaboration with Ineos and UPM Biofuels

Made primarily from FSCTM-certified paperboard, Greatview’s aseptic packaging material is based on natural feedstock from sustainably-managed forests and other controlled sources. The cartons are laminated with bio-attributed, mass-balanced polymers made from tall oil based bio-naphtha. Tall oil is a residue of the pulping process and originates from forests. The bio-naphtha is produced by UPM at its Lappeenranta Biorefinery in Finland and fully certified to the globally recognised Roundtable on Sustainable Biomaterials (RSB) Standard. The 100% bio-attributed polymer produced from this bio-naphtha is a new Ineos product, said Rob Ingram, CEO Ineos Olefins & Polymers Europe,

Greatview Planet is manufactured at Greatview’s German production facility in Halle, which runs on 100% green electricity. The facility is equipped with modern, resource-efficient production lines and is certified, among others, to ISO 14001 (Environmental Management) and ISO 50001 (Energy Management).

Greatview Planet is the company’s first product with its own sustainability position, said Victor Lee, International Director at Greatview. The product offers exactly the same material properties as conventionally produced resin material, and the same quality and food safety as provided by the standard Greatview carton packs.

“We have invested substantial efforts into finding our way to drive the circular economy. Greatview Planet is an important milestone that we are proud of,” said Lee.

The packaging material is a drop-in solution, ready to run on the customer’s filling line without any downtime or additional waste, thus ensuring low filling costs and attractive total cost of ownership  of the whole carton filling system - and making it easy for customers to make the switch from standard Greatview packaging material to Greatview Planet.
