US-based Graham Packaging has pledged to make all of its plastics packaging reusable, recyclable or compostable by 2025.
The company announced the sustainability commitment as it joined the Ellen MacArthur Foundation New Plastics Economy earlier in May.
“Since its founding nearly five decades ago, Graham Packaging has been dedicated to the design and manufacturing of environmentally friendly plastic packaging solutions,” said Tracee Reeves, head of sustainability and chief general counsel, Graham Packaging.
This new commitment, she noted, “will bring together all of our resources to reduce global waste and help our customers reach their sustainability goals.”
The Graham Packaging global sustainability committee will lead the charge in helping the company reach these goals.
The Lancaster, Pennsylvania-based company currently uses more than 45 kilotonnes of post-consumer recyclates in its products annually.
At its recycling centre in York, Pennsylvania, the company processes over 22 kilotonnes plastic packaging waste, from curbside recycling programmes each year.
